Frequently Asked Questions

What is Nesto Camera Health?
Nesto Camera Health is a camera reliability assistant for compatible Ring cameras and doorbells: it surfaces device health, activity awareness, and once-a-day image quality status alongside the Ring app.
Does Nesto Camera Health replace the Ring app?
No. Nesto Camera Health is designed to provide additional device health summaries and activity awareness. Users should continue using the Ring app for primary device controls and alerts.
What types of devices are supported?
Nesto Camera Health is designed for compatible Ring cameras and doorbells, subject to Ring account linking and available Ring device data.
Why might a camera show low activity?
Low activity may be caused by placement, motion settings, privacy zones, connectivity issues, device status, or normal changes in activity. The app provides a signal to review, not a definitive diagnosis.
What does the Image Quality status on my dashboard mean?
Image Quality is a daily, scene-level check on each camera's view. Once per day, Nesto fetches the most recent still snapshot from Ring's official API and computes a few numeric scalars in memory (brightness, blur, an obstruction indicator). The image bytes are immediately discarded — they are never written to disk, logged, or transmitted anywhere. Possible labels are Clear, Dim lighting, Overexposed, Possibly obstructed, Multiple issues, Night mode, and Not evaluated yet. There is no person, face, or content recognition involved.
My camera shows "Dim lighting" or "Possibly obstructed" — what should I check?
For "Dim lighting" or "Overexposed", review the camera's positioning relative to a light source — backlight, glare, or a nearby fixture changing brightness can trigger it. For "Possibly obstructed" or blurred views, check whether something is in front of the lens (a cobweb, fingerprint, weather residue, or an object placed too close). Image Quality never raises a critical alert and never claims a camera is broken — it's a hint to review when convenient.
Does Nesto Camera Health provide security guarantees?
No. The service provides device health and activity awareness only. It does not guarantee security outcomes, provide emergency response, or replace professional monitoring.
